It is higher quality first generation night vision, but lacks the clarity of the new 2nd and 3rd generation units, but for it's price, is NOT a bad deal at all. For 3rd generation, be prepared to fork out 10 times this price. I also suggest placing a piece of black electrical tape or something similar over the ir source since it is red and can be seen for some distance, and get the ramsey kit IR-1 which can be found here on Amazon.
