While not competing in the same class as Steiners, Leicas or Svarowskis, this is a decent basic binocular. The surface material is pleasant to the touch, and all the controls are easy to operate. The binoculars feel robust and there is no play, the finish and workmanship is excellent. For the price class these binoculars are reasonably bright and the image quality is good all around, though not excellent. Very pleased with the brightness, FOV, and overall feel of the binocular. Being Nikon, the optics are wonderful and offer excellent viewing for birdwatching and stargazing. Waterproofness would be a nice feature to have but not mandatory for these activities. Overall, they earn five stars in my opinion. ...more

We recently stopped on a dark country road and tested them out. The view was extraordinary; I could see detail that brought the sky to life. One caveat---the weight of the glasses mandates that to get the best results for stargazing you need to steady yourself on a solid object, such as an automobile, building, or tree; it is difficult to hold the glasses still very long without some type of support.
