I have two other binoculars and several cameras (including Olympus), so I am not totally green or new in the field. Of course, you cannot hold the Olympus Tracker Zoom totally steady when putting the zoom on 30x, and surely you cannot follow a bird when using 30X. At 10X, clarity and brightness is not much diff. than comparable fixed mag. 10x binocular. At 30X, the distortion and brightness are comparable to low-end fixed mag. 30x binocular. To change zoom while maintain targeting, I have to learn to focus with my left hand while zoom with right. It's different than my other binoculars but I get used to it after some practices.
